Gianluca Scamacca is an Italian forward born on 1 January 1999 in Rome. He rose to prominence in European football for his performances at club level and for the Italian national team. Scamacca is known for his height, physical presence and aerial ability, as well as being an accurate finisher.
A product of the Roma academy , Scamacca signed for PSV Eindhoven in January 2015. He made his professional debut on 22 January 2016, aged 17, in a game for Jong PSV (PSV's B team) in the Eerste Divisie (Dutch 2nd division). Gianluca came on as a substitute for Steven Bergwijn in the 61st minute of the game, in a 2–1 win at VVV-Venlo .
In January 2017, Scamacca was signed by Italian club Sassuolo , signing a 4½-year contract. On 29 October, aged 18, he made his Serie A debut , replacing Diego Falcinelli in the 85th minute of the game, in a 3–1 defeat against Napoli , at the Stadio San Paolo .
On 26 July 2022, Scamacca signed for Premier League club West Ham United , signing a 5-year contract with a further 1-year option. [ 17 ] In return, Sassuolo received a fee of £30.5 million, with an additional £5 million in goals, and the right to a 10% stake in any future sale.
Scamacca made his West Ham and Premier League debut on 7 August 2022, coming on as a substitute for Michail Antonio in the second half of a 2–0 home defeat to Manchester City . His first goal for the Hammers came in his third appearance on 18 August, opening the scoring in a 3–1 Conference League play-off win against Viborg . On 1 October , he scored his first Premier League goal, in a 2–0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers .
Scamacca joined Atalanta on a permanent deal on 7 August 2023. The reported fee was an initial £22.5 million plus £4.3 million in add-ons. On 2 September, he scored a brace in a 3–0 win over Monza , his first goals for the club. On 11 April 2024, in Atlanta's 3–0 Europa League quarter-final win , Scamacca became the first Italian to score a brace against Liverpool at Anfield .
